When starting this website it was always with the intention on bringing Chlorella and Spirulina to the market first. Both are completely filled with everything a body needs- over 50% protein and the rest comprised of essential vitamins and other factors such as extremely high DNA content which recent studies are showing to have a significant impact on healthy living. But there are some key difference between the two. The most obvious being that in nature chlorella is round in shape and is more green than spirulina which is considered blue/green. Spirulina also has more of a tail structure on a cellular level while chlorella is circular. The image here shows that although they are quite similar nutritionally their cellular structure is completely different
Chlorella also contains much more chlorophyll than spirulina (hence the name) and a unique complex called chlorella growth factor. This growth factor leads to an extremely fast reproduction rate. Under ideal conditions a chlorella population can quadrouple in just one day. This is why it is thought to be crucial in repairing damage to nerve tissue and assisting in cellular production. It also makes it a stronger argument for anti-aging abilities. Chlorella also has stronger detoxification qualities because of the high chlorophyll content.
Both species are around a billion years old with Spirulina being slightly older. Spirulina is also slightly higher in protein and healthy fats. These fats include gamma-linoleic acid which is essential in maintaining a sharp mind and healthy heart. Spirulina is also effective in fighting allergies and boosting the immune system. Spirulina has has a Phycocyanin, a unique antioxidant which is a phytonutrient that helps protect the cells and may help prevent cancer.
They both promote gut health. Chlorella and spirulina both support healthy digestion and good bacteria in the gut. Both are considered the top of the Super Food list. Always consult a healthcare professional when beginning a new supplement. Especially when taking medication.
